Wat Pha Sorn Kaew part 1

When I read 'The Wat is a unique and spectacular building, rivalling (link) Notre Dame in Paris, The Sistine Chapel in Rome and the Taj Mahal in India', then I can only say that I think it is ridiculous to compare such a new piece of art with those absolute highlights of human architecture!

On the other hand, it is certainly one of the most beautiful temples in Thailand - but even here one cannot speak of 'THE MOST BEAUTIFUL' as each of us has our own opinion.

How can we compare this temple with, for example, the white temple Wat Rong Kun in Chiang Rai or Wat Phra That in Lampang Luang? The closest match is perhaps a comparison with Wat That Tone in northern Chiang Mai ....

I'll always be fascinated by what I see now, any comparisons aside. One should be careful with absolutes and prefer the factual analysis of the site.
It is true that this temple is situated in a unique mountain landscape and one should not miss out on visiting if you are in the area between Lom Sak and Phitsanulok, on the east to west Highway 12.

It is also unique in its mosaics and wall ornaments of precious porcelain lids! Fascinatingly, the five-stacked snow-white Buddha, especially with a clear blue sky as background, brings a feeling of megalomania.

'“The main pagoda and surrounding buildings are adorned with over 5 million colorful mosaic tiles and pottery items and is set in a breathtaking mountain location…. The entire site is a visual feast of color (sic) and light that has to be seen to be believed. What the temple lacks in history it more than makes up for in beauty and atmosphere.” (Link)

Since I made my visits, first a year ago and again just recently, the Buddhas that were still in a cage of bamboo scaffolding are now pretty much finished.
A tip: behind and below the 'porcelain lid temple' there is a beautiful garden that should not be missed ...
