Court revokes Nawat's MP status

Murder convict Nawat Tohcharoensuk is no longer a Pheu Thai MP, the Constitutional Court ruled on Wednesday. The court said his status as a parliamentarian effectively ended on Oct 16, when the court ordered him to stop carrying out the functions and responsibilities of a member of parliament.

Anti-fake news centre hails first arrest

One suspected hacker has been arrested since the launch of the government's Anti-Fake News Centre on Oct 11, Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punnakanta said on Wednesday. The minister said the detained suspect was tracked down as he and his accomplices used a computer programme to illegally acquire Line group users' information.

New Species of Carnivorous Dinosaur Identified in Nong Bua Lamphu

NONG BUA LAMPHU — Paleontologists announced they identified a new species of carnivorous dinosaurs that once roamed the land that is now Nong Bua Lamphu province. Mineral Resources deputy director deputy Montri Luengingkasoot said Tuesday that the new species is called Vayuraptor nongbualamphuensis, named after the province where the bone fragments were found and the Sanskrit word for wind deity, reflecting the dinosaur’s perceived speed.

Drug busts see cops grab huge hauls

Police say they confiscated more than 1,000 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine and more than 5 million speed pills in a series of drug busts in recent days. The huge haul of crystal methamphetamine, known as "ice" was found after two trucks were intercepted by police in Phichit province on Sunday as they were heading South towards the central region.

Historic Grail to Bless Communion in Bangkok Papal Visit

BANGKOK — An elaborate chalice wrought by a famed Parisian silversmith over a century ago will serve as Pope Francis’ instrument in blessing the Eucharist in Bangkok next week. The baroque goblet was commissioned by a bishop and brought with him to Thailand, then known as Siam, in 1841 during the reign of Napoleon III. The treasure had not been used since; but it will serve its purpose for the first time when the Pope holds a massive open-air mass at the National Stadium on Nov. 21.

Paralegal charged with murder of courtroom killer

Police on Wednesday arrested a paralegal on a charge of fatally shooting a retired deputy police inspector-general who had shot dead two people at Chanthaburi Court in Muang district on Tuesday. Thanakorn Theerawarodom was taken into custody as he was leaving his room at Kasemsarn Hotel in Chanthaburi province on Wednesday morning. Police had a warrant for his arrest on a charge of murder.
