Cops bust Line dealers with 120kg haul

Two men were arrested for ordering a 120-kilogramme shipment of cannabis online to distribute to customers in Phuket, according to local police. Pol Col Theerawat Liamsuwan, chief of the Muang district police station, said on Monday that Chaiwat Semsawat, 54, and Chana Chulak, 44, were nabbed as they picked up the shipment delivered from Bangkok. Undercover agents had tipped off police to the drugs handover.

Cops think gunman fled to Chon Buri

The robber who killed three people and injured four others during a gold shop heist in Lop Buri last week is believed to have fled to Chon Buri, according to a police source. The possibility was raised after army chief Apirat Kongsompong met with the chiefs of Provincial Police Regions 1 and 2 at the First Army Region headquarters in Bangkok on Monday. Chon Buri province falls under the jurisdiction of Provincial Police Region 2.

Govt eyes cyber HQ to combat hacker threat

New office will tackle rising online menace

The government is launching its first-ever cybersecurity office to combat hacking, amid growing concern over thieves targeting everything from everyday banking transactions to data in the Chim, Shop, Chai stimulus scheme. The move, which is aimed at bolstering state efforts to crack down on cybercrime, was agreed by the national commission on cybersecurity, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon.

Speed limit hike 'to cut crashes'

The Transport Ministry is looking at raising the speed limit for the outside lane of major roads to at least 90km per hour, according to minister Saksayam Chidchob. The increase is being studied for carriageways with four lanes or more. Currently, the speed limit on such roads, mostly in cities, is capped at 80km per hour.

Tourist hit by coronavirus

A Chinese tourist found to be infected with a new strain of coronavirus when she arrived in Thailand is being treated in hospital and is expected to be discharged in a few days, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said yesterday. Her case is thought to be linked to the outbreak in the central Chinese city of Wuhan and is the first reported outside China. However, the minister insisted the virus has been contained.

Officials Confirm 1st Case of Coronavirus From China’s Wuhan

BANGKOK (AP) — A Chinese visitor to Thailand has been confirmed to be infected with a new strain of coronavirus that has been linked to a pneumonia outbreak in central China, health officials said Monday. The U.N.’s World Health Organization said Thai officials have reported that a traveler from the Chinese city of Wuhan has been hospitalized in Thailand with the virus.

Budget faces few hurdles

The 3.2-trillion-baht budget for the 2020 fiscal year is expected to be submitted for royal endorsement this month, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Monday. The bill, which was passed by the House of Representatives on Saturday, will first be forwarded to the Senate which has up to 20 days to consider the bill.

75 year old tourist ‘attacked’ by small unidentified shark in Phang Nga

A Phang Nga swimmer was was bitten and attacked by a mystery beastie…. thought to be a shark, and probably a small bull shark. The A 75 year old German tourist says he was swimming in the sea off the southern Thailand beach with his wife on Sunday. The incident occurred only 6 – 7 metres from the shoreline. He has been treated at a hospital in Phuket.
