Thai government looks to revive Pak Bara and Songkhla deep-sea port projects

The Transport Ministry is considering reviving the Pak Bara, Satun, and Songkhla deep-sea port projects. Both projects are in the south of the country. The projects have been shelved at this stage due to strong protests by locals and environment groups.

Govt looks to bring minnow under its wing

Number one cause of death among Thais is cancer-related diseases

The Ministry of Health has identified that cancer is the number one killer of Thai citizens since 1998, adding that out of 122,757 new cases diagnosed in 2019, 73,000 patients have died. Government hoping to turbo-charge Thai new car sales

A number of proposals are being looked at by The Excise Department in a bid to convince Thai citizens to purchase new vehicles rather than going down the used car route. The Nation reports that some cost-reducing incentives are being considered, with the aim of cutting the number of polluting vehicles on Thailand’s roads, with The Excise Department planning talks with the relevant government agencies and private sector on December 16.

Minimum wage to rise next month

The national wage committee agreed on Friday to increase the minimum daily wage by 5-6 baht, from 308-330 baht to 313-336 baht, and will propose the rise to cabinet for effect from Jan 1. Unskilled workers in most provinces will be entitled to 315-320 baht a day.

Drugs family 'wanted' for burning meth-stealing relative

SONGKHLA: Arrest warrants have been issued for members of a family after a woman relative who allegedly stole 300 grammes of "ice" from them was set on fire in Bang Klam district. The Songkhla provincial court on Thursday evening approved warrants for Solae Jisawat, 41, his wife Jantira Binsaho, 36, and relatives Yongyut Chumpraman, 26 and Patraporn Petcharat, 29, on charges of the illegal detention and attempted murder of Malai Chumpraman, 50, on Sunday.
