Expert warns of older van death risk

Older vehicles are linked to higher risk of death in road accidents, warned an expert on public transport systems, Agachai Sumalee. Prof Agachai, who has worked for King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and Hong Kong Polytechnic University, issued the warning after Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob decided to allow public transport operators to continue using vans that are older than 10 years, as long as they pass a safety inspection.

Artesian wells dug in Surin

Artesian wells are being dug at the state-run Surin Hospital crippled by a shortage of water, said Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul who toured the province on Sunday. Mr Anutin made an urgent visit to the hospital, which serves as the primary medical centre in Surin and nearby provinces.

3 Burmese workers dead following collapse at VIP Condo construction site in Rawai

Two workers have been found dead following yesterday’s collapse at the construction site of the VIP Mercury and VIP Galaxy condo and villa site in Rawai. The two migrant workers were trapped under scaffolding that collapsed bringing the death toll to 3. Eight others were hurt.

A Canadian monk popular among locals in Mae Hong Son for helping the needy has resigned from the monkhood following accusations of having sexual relationships with at least one woman. Phra Julien, 42, posted a Facebook message on Sunday saying he had decided to leave the monkhood to seek forgiveness after violating the Dhamma principles by having sexual relations with women.
