Pope hails Thailand as inspiration for global peace

Pope Francis called Thailand an inspiration for global peace and harmony, in a message ahead of his visit to the country this week. "In this world that too frequently experiences discord, division and exclusion", Thailand has shown commitment to work hard "to promote harmony and a peaceful coexistence", Pope Francis said in the video message released by the Vatican on Friday ahead of his Nov 20 to 23 visit.

Teen suicide girl 'victim of sexual assault': mum

The mother of a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide by jumping off a building on Friday night said her daughter had been sexually assaulted by a gang of boys, causing severe depression. The 13-year-old, nicknamed "Pinkie", had been detained in a house in Klong Tan district some time last week and sexually assaulted, said the mother, who also asked for anonymity.

Man accused of raping 12-year-old girl in Kanchanaburi in 2012

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Pathum Thani, seven years after fleeing arrest on charges of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in Kanchanaburi. Kritsada Moraphad, of Tha Muang district in Kanchanaburi, was apprehended at a shopping mall on Phahon Yothin Road in Lam Luk Ka district of Pathum Thani on Friday.

Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit says he has struck deals to sell 15.5 billion baht worth of Thai products to Turkey, led by emerging champion rubber pillows, during a trip to the country. Apart from rice, tapioca and food, rubber pillows drew keen interest from Turkish companies, with deals to ship 20 million pieces worth 12 billion baht starting in December.

Victims of Pattani attack were parents of police sergeant based in Yala

PATTANI: A couple were shot dead and their granddaughter wounded in a drive-by shooting in Mae Lan district of Pattani late on Friday. The fatal attack took place near a market between tambon Khuan Noree and tambon Pha Rai, said Pol Col Sonthaya Thoopthong, the Mae Lan police chief.

Ombudsman to seek ruling on PM panel summons

The Office of the Ombudsman will ask the Constitutional Court to rule whether recent summonses issued by the Sereepisuth Temeeyaves-led House committee on corruption violated the charter. The summonses in question were issued on Wednesday for Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon.
