271 stranded Russians fly home from Phuket

PHUKET: Another group of Russians stranded in Thailand by the Covid-19 pandemic flew home in a special flight on Tuesday. The 271 Russian nationals departed from Suvarnabhumi airport at 11.04am on Aeroflot Fight SU275 bound for Moscow. The Russians were seen off at the departure building by a group of airport staff, immigration police and health officials.

Vehicle boarding bridge collapses at Koh Samui ferry pier

SURAT THANI: A steel boarding bridge for vehicles at Raja 1 ferry pier on Koh Samui collapsed on Tuesday morning, leaving a truck wedged beneath the wharf. The pier is one of the three on Koh Samui used by Raja Ferry Plc, which operates ferries between Don Sok on the mainland and Koh Samui. The incident left only two piers in operation.

Russian is sole new Covid case in Thailand Tuesday

The government on Tuesday reported one new case of Covid-19, a Russian woman in quarantine, and no new deaths. No local transmissions of the virus have been reported for the past 71 days. The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration reported that the Russian woman arrived on July 20 and was staying in an alternative state quarantine facility in Bangkok.

Gold shop robbers caught, one wounded in shootout

All three suspects in the robbery of a gold shop in Bueng Kan province last Friday have been caught, with the gang leader seriously wounded in an exchange of gunfire with police in Khon Kaen. Rangsan Wisetlinthong, 36, was badly wounded in a clash with police while trying to flee on a motorbike on Monday afternoon, Pol Gen Suchart Theerasawat, deputy national police chief, said on Tuesday.

Mekong river rising after heavy rain

NAKHON PHANOM: The water level in the Mekong river, bordering this northeastern border province with Laos, is rising following heavy rain in the region over the past few days. On Tuesday morning, the level was up by more than 1 metre from Monday, to 5m deep. However, it was still about 8m below the citical level of 13m.

Cocaine, reckless driving charges for Red Bull scion

A panel of prosecutors on Tuesday recommended charges of cocaine abuse and reckless driving causing death for Red Bull scion Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya. The dramatic turnaround on Mr Vorayut's fatal hit-and-run case in Bangkok in 2012 came in a review of the prosecution by a working group of the Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) and was announced by OAG spokesman Prayut Petcharakhun.

1 More Dead in Samui Ferry Sinking, Inquiry Underway

KOH SAMUI — Police say they found the body of a crew member while searching for four missing people from a ferry that sank off the coast of Koh Samui, bringing the death toll to two while three more are still missing. Senior Sgt. Maj. Sumneang Sungleung of Samui Marine Police said by phone Tuesday that the body that rescue workers found near Koh Mat Kong Monday belonged to one of the people on the Raja 4 ferry, which sank Saturday.
