Ambulance hits farm truck in Korat, drivers badly hurt

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: The drivers of a hospital ambulance and an "e-taen" farm truck were seriously injured after the two vehicles crashed in Chok Chai district of this northeastern province on Sunday morning. Man stabbed to death by wife in Phrae

PHRAE: A man was stabbed to death by his wife following a quarrel in Muang district of this northern province on Sunday morning, police said. Pol Capt Narong Sonklin, a Muang police investigator, said a team of police and a doctor from Phrae Hospital rushed to a house at Moo 3 village in tambon Muang Mo on being informed of the incident, which occurred at about 2.30am.

Most not worried by China's complaint about Thanathorn: poll

A majority of people are not worried by a statement issued by the Chinese embassy in Bangkok expressing concern over what it said was a show of tacit support by a Thai politician for protesters in Hong Kong, saying that Thailand and China have long enjoyed strong relations, according to the result of an opinion survey by the National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll.

Budget passes first reading despite concerns over targets of huge spend

The government's 3.2-trillion-baht budget bill sailed through its first reading in the House of Representatives yesterday, despite the opposition accusing the government of paying lip service to promoting social equality. In the ballot to conclude the three-day session, 251 MPs voted in favour, 234 abstained and no MPs voted against the bill.

Pheu Thai forgives Thanathorn for Thaksin remark

Pheu Thai Party's key members say they have forgiven Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit over his remark about fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra conflicts of interest. Phumtham Wechayachai, adviser to party leader Sompong Amornvivat, said Mr Thanathorn had offered his apologies and they now understood each other.

BURI RAM: Suspicious local residents are calling for an investigation after a contractor working on a government road extension project asked them to pay him directly to have drainage pipes installed. Residents and shophouse owners along the Buri Ram-Prakhon Chai Road in tambon Samed in Muang district have lodged a complaint with the government’s Damrongtham centre over the practice.

Cops seize weapons in Don Muang prior to Asean meet

Police have seized 35 guns and made 30 arrests in a security sweep of Don Muang ahead of the 35th Asean Summit in Bangkok next month. Thailand is this year's chair of the regional bloc. Metropolitan Police Division 2 conducted the raids in communities from Oct 10 to 16, Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Phukphong Phongpetra said on Friday.

Two more dead jumbos recovered

NAKHON NAYOK: The fourth and fifth of the 11 dead elephants which fell to their deaths at Haew Narok Waterfall in Khao Yai National Park have been recovered. Wichai Pornleesaengsuwan, director of the Prachin Buri-based Protected Areas Office, said on Friday that the areas where the carcasses were found were difficult to access because of strong currents and heavy rain.

Thanathorn 'regrets' Thaksin court mention
