'Skycycle lane' offers elevated congestion-free travel

Inspired by Xiamen Bicycle Skyway in China, Scira's proposed raised bicycle route promises to improve connectivity and ease traffic woes.

In a bid to promote the use of bicycles for daily transport, Smart City Innovative Research Academy (Scira), a think-tank on urban development under King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang has come up with an idea it calls "The Skycycle Project".

Floods persisted in five northeastern provinces on Saturday, with five districts in hardest-hit Ubon Ratchathani under extra watch, while water levels in eight other districts have started to recede. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported flooding in Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Ubon Ratchathani, Roi Et and Si Sa Ket provinces.

Half of tigers seized from temple have died

Laryngeal paralysis detected when animals were first brought from Kanchanaburi site linked to wildlife trafficking

More than half of the 147 tigers seized from a Kanchanaburi temple three years ago have died of laryngeal paralysis, which causes upper airway obstruction in the animals. The large cats in the care of two wildlife sanctuaries in Ratchaburi province had shown symptoms since they were brought there in June 2016, according to officials at the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP).

Key East-West bridge opens in Phitsanulok

PHITSANULOK: An elevated traffic bridge linking the East-West economic corridors has been opened. The 849-million-baht Indochina Intersection Bridge took the Highways Department 2½ years to complete. It runs over the intersection formerly known as Rong Pho between Highways 11 and 12 in the lower-northern province.
