Man charged with human trafficking

Police have charged a man who lured young girls to send him obscene photos of themselves online with human trafficking and having in possession child pornography. The offences carry a heavy penalty of 10 years in jail or a fine of 200,000 baht, Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children (Ticac) police said on Monday.

First Thai Wins Czech Culture Award

PRAGUE — An arts professor is the first Thai national, as well as the youngest person ever, to be presented with an award from the Czech Republic for promoting Czech culture abroad. The Czech government awarded Verita Sriratana, a professor in literary studies at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, the 2019 Gratias Agit prize on Friday morning local time for promoting Czech culture in Thailand.

Thai Elderly Vulnerable to Fake News, Medicine Scams: Researcher

BANGKOK — Elderly Thais are highly vulnerable to fraudulent medicines and health supplements advertised on social and mass media, research by Mahidol University has warned. Nuntiya Doungphummes, a researcher at Mahidol University’s Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, has found that older demographics do not sufficiently verify the authenticity of health products advertised to them – leaving them vulnerable to fraud, scams and dangerous products.

Owner of military cadet tutorial school arrested over boy's death

NAKHON SAWAN: The owner of a military cadet tutorial school in Muang district of Nakhon Sawan has been arrested over the death of a 15-year-old schoolboy attending the boarding school. Police investigators from Muang police station and the Crime Suppression Division arrested Natthaphol Thavornphibun, owner of Ban Phi Nat tutorial school, at Iceland housing estate in tambon Wat Sai at around 1.30am on Tuesday.

Investigation launched into tiger chained at Phuket Zoo – VIDEO

Officials are conducting a full investigation after a video clip of a tiger chained at Phuket Zoo on social media claimed that the tiger had been drugged for photos with the public. Phuket officials today have inspected the Phuket Zoo after several social media complaints that the tiger was chained and drugged for tourists to take photos. No tiger was found at the area which was in the video clip.

Singer Pooky arrested for drug trafficking

Former singer Prissana Praisaeng, aka Pooky, 40, was arrested at a rented house in Ram Intra area on Monday night for alleged involvement in the trafficking of 5.2 kilogrammes of ketamine. She was arrested with her husband Cholawit Keetatrakul, 49, at house number 18/118 in The Terrace housing estate on Soi Ram Intra 65 in Bang Khen district.
