Police arrest Malaysian 'king of fake whisky'

A 63-year-old Malaysian man dubbed "David, king of fake whisky" has been arrested in a car park at a Bangkok shopping mall and admitted to having produced counterfeit foreign spirits for more than 30 years, police say. Chan Fat Yat, a Malaysian national, was held on charges of illegally producing liquor, falsifying trademarks and overstaying his visa.

Spaniard will now apply for pardon after murder conviction upheld by Supreme Court

A Spanish man found guilty of the 2016 murder of a fellow citizen in Bangkok has failed in his bid to have his conviction overturned. The Nation reported that Artur Segarra Princep will now apply for a royal pardon after the Supreme Court upheld the conviction on Wednesday.

Dog falling from vehicle looks for owner

SONGKHLA: A dog falling from a moving car two weeks ago is often spotted watching passing vehicles on a road in Bang Klam district of Songkhla, looking for her owner, according to her two rescuers. Chayanan Sornsewanee, 50 and her sister Suthasiri, 63, posted messages in social media and at other agencies in Bang Klam district look for the owner of the Bang Kaew dog.

Farmers warned of legal action for covering road lights

BURI RAM: Farmers have been warned of legal action for covering roadside lights to protect their rice crops. Some farmers at Ban Chom Prasart in Nang Rong district used fertiliser bags to cover light bulbs on seven lamp posts along Highway 3001. They claimed the lights could stunt the growth of paddy ears in their fields.

Court upholds death sentence for Spanish murderer

The Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence for Spanish national Artur Segarra Princep, 40, for the premeditated murder of compatriot David Bernat, 41, in 2016. Segarra was taken from Bang Kwang Central Prison to hear the ruling at the Central Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road on Wednesday. He greeted several Spanish journalists waiting there as he entered the court building.

'Leader' of smuggling ring nabbed

A man has been arrested in Kanchanaburi and charged with running a drug trafficking ring after more than three million methamphetamine pills were seized in Chiang Rai last month. The Immigration Bureau (IB) on Tuesday announced the arrest of the man, identified only as Prasarn, 29, at a resort in Kanchanaburi's Muang district on Nov 5.

Farmers want help when chemical ban hits

Farming groups have proposed a rehabilitation and assistance scheme for farmers who may be affected by a ban on the use of three toxic farming chemicals that will come into effect on Dec 1. About 100 members from 860 networks for sustainable farming on Tuesday converged at a press conference at Chulabhorn Research Institute on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, calling on the government to consider their proposal.
