Currency, coins and banknotes

The Thai currency is the baht, abbreviated to THB. A baht is divided into 100 satangs. 25 satangs are a salueng. In circulation there are coins in denominations of 25 satang, 50 satang, 1 baht, 2 baht, 5 baht and 10 baht. In the following pictures, the coins are arranged down from 25 satang at the top to 10 baht at the bottom (tails and heads).

The following bills are in circulation in Thailand; 20 baht, 50 baht, 100 baht, 500 Baht and 1,000 Baht. For legal reasons we can't show pictures of these notes here. On the website of the Thai Central Bank, the Bank of Thailand (BOT), you can get information about the current and older banknote series.

The baht as a unit of weight for gold

Don't be confused by the fact that gold is measured in Thai baht as well as grammes in Thai gold shops. A distinction is made whether it is processed into jewelry gold; in this case, the baht unit is equivalent to 15.16 grams, and for Thai gold bullion - 1 baht is 15.244 grams.
