Internet and Telephone in Thailand

In all major cities of Thailand there is now high speed internet (ADSL) available. Only those who live in the sticks, some distance from the nearest major city, will have to endure a slow connection.

The expansion of high speed internet is, however, progressing rapidly and in the foreseeable future a comprehensive supply to all areas will be achieved.

The internet can in many areas be received using the 3G system. First experiments with the next system generation 4G have begun on a small scale.

Also in the major cities of Thailand an internet connection via WiFi Hot Spots is fairly common. Many restaurant, bar or cafe operators offer free access to the internet for their customers. Hotspots of internet operators can be located on the websites of the providers listed in the second table.

Here we've listed the current lowest prices of 3BB and True. Availability can be partially checked on the customer's website.

Mobile operators offer a huge variety of tariff options. In Thailand it is most common to use the 'prepaid method'. Rather than enter into a contract with a wireless service provider, one buys a SIM card and tops up with credit as needed..

SIM cards of different providers are offered by the provider directly or at branches in many other stores like 7-Eleven, at very reasonable prices. The charging is done via cards with number codes, ATM or online banking. The table below summarizes the key providers are listed with links to the homepages.
