King Cobra Village of Thailand
Some of the most dangerous snakes in Thailand can be found around 100 kilometers from Udon Thani, in the King Cobra Village near Khon Kaen. For many generations, snakes have been bred in Ban Khok Sa-Nga, including a 5 1/2 feet long king cobra. Since 1951, the snakes have become a tourist attraction, including the legendary snake shows. Rumour has it that some visitors have been killed during the shows. The snakes are supposedly not 'milked' (regular emptying of the poison glands), nor have the fangs been removed.
To get to King Cobra City from Udon Thani, take highway towards Khon Kaen. After about 80 Km at Nam Phong, turn left onto road 2039, and drive for another 14.5 km until the signpost on the right.
In the photoblog, forum member Maithai has described his personal experiences while visiting the snake village. At the end of this article, as always, we have the coordinates for navigation aids and a map.
