Thai Boxing - Muay Thai

Although Udon Thani is not exactly a hotbed of Thai boxing, there is the opportunity for both Thais and farangs to learn this sport competently.

Udon-News thanks forum member Maithai for this excellent report!

It's located in an older, small but clean room at the sport grounds of the Udon Thani Physical Education Institute, affiliated to the university and also to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. On the Ring Road 210, near the junction for the Khut Chap road 2263. Enter into this driveway:

Drive through to the large area with many sports facilities and buildings, to the other end of this hall:

Here the trainer, San Adjarn, resides with his wife and co-trainer Binny. This hall will only be used temporarily until the new building is completed next year.

This is the friendly coach San, 33 years old, of which 25 of those engaged with Muay Thai. As a boxer, he has contested more than 300 professional bouts. He teaches both the current Muay Thai style as well as the traditional Muay Boran style.

Here he's with his wife Binny, who is also a coach and manager.

The exclusively private lessons are solely by arrangement, whether for Thai or farang, young or old, beginner or more advanced. An hour's coaching costs 400 baht.

Tel: San Adjarn (Thai) 080-7628628
Tel: Kru Binny (English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish) 080-3501605

You need really have no fear; Muay Thai is a useful skill for anyone, emphasizing fitness and self-control. We farangs here tend to neglect our bodies in Thailand. Agility and endurance is of paramount importance for any age. San coaches a 70-year-old Englishman almost every day!

Some courses are geared for children and for women, where the emphasis is more on body control and self-defense.

Here Chris is training, a 49-year-old Englishman who has practised this sport for many years.

Well, is this your pleasure? Or would you rather have a beer on the couch?
Don't hang about - this will do your body good!
