Sala Keo Kou Statue Park in Nong Khai

Sala Keo Kou in Nong Khai is an attraction with a difference: throughgout the park there are huge concrete sculptures, most of which represent motifs from Buddhist and Hindu mythology.

Sala Keo Kou is just a few kilometers from downtown Nong Khai. After paying the entry fee of 20 baht, one enters the park and is immediately overwhelmed by the quantity and the dimensions of the concrete sculptures. The patina on the concrete also ensures that you get the feeling of walking through an ancient temple complex.

The park with its statues was created at the end of the 70s. It was conceived and built by followers of Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat - a Thai, Buddhist sect leader - who has over the years been indulging his unique passion for large sculptures. Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat lived from 1932 to 1996. Once over the initial surprise upon entering the park, then you quickly start to marvel at the attention to detail which the master and his followers have created in their characters.
