Preparations for Songkran

In Udon Thani, preparations are well underway for this year's Songkran festival! In the city from the 12th of April you will find entertainment, water games, contests and much more, in various locations.

In UDtown teams have been working for several days on the elaborate design for Chang Wonder Water Land - including water games and related competitions and entertainment.

The soundcheck today was a promising start. From the experience of recent years, the spectacle will again be a huge success, attracting thousands of people to Udon Thani. Chang Wonder Water Land will be open in UDtown from the 12th to the 16th of April.

However, many other venues in the city are also being prepared. At Thungsri Muang on the weekend there will be a beauty contest, as well as dancing, singing, and of course plenty of food will be available. At Nongprajak Park water lovers can let off steam without running the risk of being run over. Fountains here are a major attraction and numerous stages will play host to several bands playing different styles to suit all.

The biggest question of all, however, is whether, as in previous years, the water fights will take place in the usual proportions outside of the organized venues. The Department of Transportation has issued a ban on the transport of water on open vehicles, to try to cut down on accidents.

Consequently the water-filling stations should be obsolete by the lakes of the city, as seen here at Nong Sim;

Convoys, as seen here at Nongprajak Park, fighting running water-battles on the road, should be no more;

And, since it also affects passengers carried in the back, images like this should also be a thing of the past;

Only the moped riders and pedestrians would not be protected from unexpected showers!

Whether these pictures from last year will actually be a thing of the past, we rather doubt, however! Thus, we'll be taking our camera's again this year to see what happens; we will keep you informed.

All at Udon-News wish you a merry Thai New Year - Songkran 2013!
