Northeast Eagle Sport Flying Club and Udon RC Flying Club

In Udon Thani, there is a flying club, or rather a sports airfield, which is home to the Northeast Eagle Sport Flying Club and the Udon RC Flying Club.

Udon-News thanks 'forum member 'Maithai' for this excellent report.

It's in Ban Lueam, straight on from the Posri Road crossing north of town, across the ring road. Take the 3001 highway for about 2.7 Km, then turn left when you see this sign:

From here you can see the hangar.

Here they fly microlights and powered paragliders.

Visitors are always welcome and you can look around. By prior arrangement, scenic flights are available in 2 seater microlights. Prices for flights or lessons are negotiable.

Here you can take a course to learn how to fly these machines. Below is a photo of the drive unit of a powered paraglider; an air-cooled 2-stroke engine of 170 cc. Behind is a wire cage holding a large propeller. The whole thing is strapped on your back and there's a seat cushion to sit on.

Preparing for take-off!

A quick sprint and you are airborne.

On the same premises there is the local model flying club RC Udon.

Here you can fly whatever you want; mostly model planes and helicopters.

The helicopter professionals at work.

All nationalities are welcome; Thai, Asian and Farang. In the rainy season there's usually not much going on, but after October everything is in full swing. There is no schedule, just turn up and do your thing! Normally it's busiest at weekends and in the late afternoon. So, if you are interested, go there and see what's available. Often, there is a nice and cozy evening social scene.

Hello Rudi,

you will find members of the club after 4pm at the club house, best on weekends. As far as we know you can't take an exam there but book lessons. Please contact Khun Saman. If you can't speak Thai you should bring someone who can help you communicating.
