Bun Bang Fai - Festival in Non Sung

"On Saturday we're going to Non Sung, darling. There will be traditional Thai dances to admire, and a parade and home-made rockets!" I'd seen traditional dances and parades many times before, but home-made rockets? That sounded tempting and I agreed that I'd partner my wife for the day.  Non Sung is familiar to most residents of Udon, as it's the village where the vehicle registry and tax offices are. The parade was to take place on the highway running parallel to the "Frontage Road".

Scenes of life in Isaan of 100 years ago were enacted, although these scenes can still be seen in some remote places today!

Several dance groups were driven by a rhythmic drumming and formed another highlight of the parade. The dancers were of all ages, and genders, and some of the "Grandmas / Grandpas" had to be admired for their zest and agility.

Young couples were on a horse, dressed very prettily,

and the little princesses appearing very dignified.

I missed the home-made rockets otherwise I post the photos here: another time maybe!
