A Country Wedding in Isaan
Those of you who've been invited to a wedding reception in Thailand might expect it to be held in the banquet room of a large hotel or restaurant, where several courses are served and traditional Thai entertainment is provided on a stage.
In the sticks the guest at a wedding party will find the party centred around food, just the same, but the venue will most likely be in a tent in a rice field with the guests all somewhat coarse and rustic, and this usually makes for a great atmosphere.
The food at the wedding reception we visited included beef soup, chicken curry, larb of various meats and fish, som tam (green papaya salad) and a few other dishes. Soft drinks, beer and Sang Som (Thai rum) was all readily available. The entertainment took place on a temporary stage where we enjoyed the mor lam, with well-known Thai pop and folk music performed, accompanied by 'beauty too much' girl dancers.
